Original Merry Prankster, Intrepid Trips Acid Test Membership Card 3 1/2" X 2"
From the early Dead Days and Ken Kesey’s Merry Pranksters. This membership card was printed by Ken Kesey’s Intrepid Trips, Inc. in late 1965, around the time of the second “Acid Test” held at Big Nig’s house in San Jose, California (December 4th, 1965), an occasion notable as the Grateful Dead’s first Acid Test performance. The membership cards were to ID the Merry Pranksters and were also distributed at the Acid Tests.
The "Acid Tests" were gatherings, particularly in the San Francisco area, that centered around LSD use and music, often featuring the Grateful Dead. These events were a key component of the San Francisco counterculture and its transition from the Beat Generation to the Hippie Movement.
It was up to the card carrier to fill in the back of their Intrepid Trips card and paste a photo. A lot of Pranksters would fill out the back of their Acid Test ID with humor being a priority. For example, “I was born” could be filled in with “Yes” or “Naked & Screaming,” silly stuff like that.
The card will come with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Zane Kesey (Ken's son)
